Harvest helpers

Posted in Church on September 11th, 2011 by jen – 1 Comment

Our Young Adult group headed to First Fruits Farm to pick apples. The farm is dedicated to growing fresh fruits and vegetables to feed the hungry. Volunteers come in and harvest; the farm then donates the food to the Maryland Food Bank, soup kitchens and shelters. We were going to be harvesting potatoes, but we ended up picking apples due to the excessive rain this week.

In case you were wondering, those are McIntosh apples.

Chad's long arms helped out with some of the harder to reach apples.

Susan needed no ladder, as she showed her tree climbing expertise.

I believe Christy is up in the tree while Eric waits on the ground for her to throw apples at… I mean drop apples on… I mean hand apples to him.

Frank was a veteran picker, but we didn't see much of him since he spent most of his time hidden amongst the treetops. Chad did manage to sneak a peak at him up there here, though.

Thanks to Amy for organizing this service project. We all really enjoyed it and hopefully, we'll get to do it again sometime.

The kids sang a couple of their Vacation Bible School songs for us in church today. We may have to separate Molly and Simon next time they are on stage together to keep Molly from pretending to eat Simon every so often. As you can see, she had a lot of fun.

A busy Halloween

Halloween got started early with trick-or-treating at Grams and Pop's house.

Per Molly's request, Leah was a banana. So, here's our cute, little peeled banana.

Everyone posed for a quick pic before heading to our next Halloween destination.

Happy Halloween

We then headed to church where they had lots of Halloween games for kids. Molly showed off her basketball skills.

Leah got in on the playing as well.

Simon and Matilda came to the party too.

With friends

Molly picked all of our costumes. She first decided she wanted to be a monkey, then that Leah had to be a banana to accompany her. Then, she decided that Chad and I would be trees for her to climb on (banana trees, to be specific). We borrowed Molly's monkey costume, but I made the rest. We even took the prize for best family costume.

After the games, we went outside for trunk-or-treating.

This led to lots and lots of candy.

Field Day 2010

Posted in Church on September 25th, 2010 by c-had – Be the first to comment

We finally had Young Adult Field Day 2010 - the day of silly games our small group at church gets together for every year. It was originally planned for June (as it has been in previous years), but we delayed it so more people would be in town for it. The games include the egg race, the sack race, the 3-legged race, the hop along race, the dizzy-bat tricycle race, the dizzy-bat basketball race, the water balloon launch, the toilet-seat toss, the giant golf shot, and the tug-of-war. Lots of fun was had by all,

First up - the egg race. Here are Sandy and Michelle showing us how the transfer is done after Michelle's leg of the race.

The sack race requires less precision, but you can still get going a bit too quick as Christy demonstrates here.

Might want to slow down

Jen and Leah came until it was Leah's nap time (though they didn't participate in the games). Molly hung out the whole time and spent much of the time playing with Diana, including a lot of bouncing on the hop along.

I managed to even get a group shot of almost everyone (by telling them they couldn't start eating the pizza until they took it :).

A good time was had by all. I'm already looking forward to next year, though maybe I'll practice riding Molly's tricycle a bit before then to get ready.
