A [pillow]Case for Smiles

Posted in Sewing on August 30th, 2010 by jen – 4 Comments

I am participating in another Craft Hope project. I made pillowcases to donate to ConKerr Cancer. They provide bright and cheery handmade pillowcases for children battling cancer. They're "giving sick kids a reason to smile...one pillowcase at a time."

My first bag

Posted in Sewing on August 23rd, 2010 by jen – 11 Comments

I've had my eye on making this Buttercup Bag for a while, so when my friend's birthday came around I knew exactly what to make her! I encouraged her to overlook any imperfections since it was my first time making a bag, but that showed it was made with love, right?!

Her response? "JEN! I LOOOOVE the purse!! :) It's so adorable and I will DEFINITELY use it!! Thank you sooooo much!! And I'm not sure what "imperfections" I was supposed to notice, but I didn't notice a THING wrong with it! I'm so honored I get to be the first person with one of your creations o' awesomeness! :)"

You think she liked it?! :)

Aly at Polkanuts featured the bubble dresses I made. She was sweet to not only compliment my dresses and my adorable model, but also all the craft projects I've been doing with Molly. Go check it out!

I made this bubble dress for Leah for next summer. My niece was such an adorable model that I sent it home with her for this summer!

Adventure on the High Seas

Posted in Molly, Sewing on July 25th, 2010 by jen – 2 Comments

Molly is finally old enough to participate in Vacation Bible School. This year the kids went on an adventure on the high seas. She was so excited every morning when I told her we were going to Bible school again. I taught Molly's preschool class and we both had a great week learning that God's word is true, comforting, surprising, life-changing and for everyone! She loved singing and dancing to all of the songs and listened to the CD so much that I went to bed and woke up singing them! We even had an evening of singing with Uncle J, who led these songs for the kids at his church.

Molly's shirt was way too big for her, so I made a few tweaks using this tutorial and now she can finally wear her Bible school shirt!

Finally a nice photo

I made this portable fabric high chair as a baby shower gift. Leah seems quite happy to model it for Mommy. Now I need to get to making one for her!

Little Dresses for Africa

Posted in Sewing on July 8th, 2010 by jen – 2 Comments

Last month, I came across this Do-It-For-Others Project. The goal is to make 200 pillowcases dresses to send to Little Dresses for Africa and aid in "changing lives one little dress at a time." So, my mom (and dad) and I did our part and made 5 dresses.

If you'd like to participate, leave a comment here and get to sewing! The dresses need to be received by the end of July.

America’s birthday party

While trying to explain to Molly why we were having a party at Grams' house, she asked if it was a birthday party. I told her that it was America's birthday, and she then asked, "But who's America?"

Before heading over, we posed for a picture. Molly made sure that Leah was smiling.

Smile, Leah

Leah's doing a wonderful job modeling her new pillowcase dress. She's already learning to look just a little taller by standing on her tip-toes!

Some of Aunt Caroline's friends came to the party and played flashlight dance with Molly. Molly thought it was lots of fun, and didn't want to stop. This picture doesn't do it justice, though, so if you haven't already, make sure you check out the video.

I made red, white and blue chocolate dipped strawberries for the celebration. Molly liked them so much she even ate the stem! Guess we're doing a good job of convincing her that leafy vegetables are good.

When I saw this tutorial for The Market Skirt, I knew I just had to make one! I mean, how cute is my little market girl! And she was excited to tell everyone that "Mommy made me a new green skirt!"
