It’s craftastic!

Posted in Crafts, Sewing on June 2nd, 2011 by jen – 4 Comments

I've worked on several craft projects lately, but many were gifts that I needed to give before posting. So, here goes a craftastic photo bomb!

I made Grams a couple reusable travel lids for Mother's Day.

Reusable covers

This Minnie Mouse ribbon shirt was a birthday gift for Molly's friend, Sadie.

We have gotten so many solicitors lately. Between tree cutting services, home improvement services, and butchers (yes, you read that right!) all saying "We were in your area doing some work..." I had to try something! So far so good. Chad thought the sign should say, "No, you weren't just in the neighborhood!"

A reversible dress for our friends, Pete and Laura. They are expecting baby Claire in September.

And lastly, Molly and I made button bookmarks for her preschool teachers - perfect for their summer reading!

Finally, a dress for Molly

As I've mentioned, Molly and many of her friends are in a dress phase. Every time I made a dress for one of her friend's birthday, Molly always asked for one too. So finally, I made a new dress for her. She picked out the fabric (she loved the pink polks-dots and butterflies are her favorite bug!) and I made this cute halter dress again for her.

You might also notice Molly's different hairstyle. We're going to try growing out her bangs. It makes her look so much older pulled back. We'll see how it goes!

Making clothes for little boys is a bit tough when you don't have one in your house! I used this romper pattern again and made a jon jon for our friend Kathy's little boy. I had to ask a high school friend for measurements, and Leah was a good sport and tried it on for me since it was 18 months, but I think it turned out pretty darn cute!

Celebrating with family

On Monday night, I made cupcakes for a combined early birthday/Mother's Day celebration for my sister and mom.

Birthday cupcakes

There was a yummy surprise inside these cupcakes - chocolate chip cookie dough! My BIL said they were possibly the best cupcakes he'd ever had!

Michelle was excited to finally get some homemade vanilla extract after waiting months for it to ferment.

An exciting gift

And by special request, I made these kitchen owl towels for her birthday.

For my mom, I embroidered all the granddaughters' handprints as a Mother's Day gift.

Everyone loves Minnie

It turns out that everyone loves Minnie! (Did you know her full name is actually Minerva Mouse?) Molly has been invited to two Minnie Mouse birthday parties since her own, so I made this apron for Molly's classmate, Elizabeth.

Birthday sisters

I made another birthday dress for one of Molly's friends, Keira. As you might guess, she is also in the popular 4-year-old dress phase. It's been fun trying out so many different patterns. This one is New Look 6613.

Another birthday dress

Edit: Keira came over to play wearing the dress I made for her, so here's the birthday girl in her new dress.

I also created a cookie monster bow for Keira's little sister, Maya, for her 2nd birthday.

In preparation for Molly's 4th birthday, I made the girls Mickey and Minnie dresses. They were inspired by this dress. Molly's response when I showed her the dress, "Oh, it's lovely Mom."

In a dress phase

Many of Molly's friends are in a dress phase like Molly. So, I made this dress for her friend, Jenna, for her 4th birthday. (Please excuse the cheesy grin from my model!)

It turned out super cute and Molly agreed. I'll be making one for her soon too.

Come “Sip and See”

Posted in Food, Sewing on February 28th, 2011 by jen – 3 Comments

This weekend, I helped host a "Sip and See" for my friend, Emily, and her baby girl, Camille. Sip and See's are not common here, so it was a great way for us to bring a little Texas to Maryland for Emily.

I volunteered to make these monogrammed cookies. (And unlike what some may have thought, the C was not for Chad or Christy!)

C is for...

The guests were offered lots of tasty sweets while waiting to see the sweet baby!

I also made a bubble outfit and matching headband for Camille. Hopefully, it will fit her when the weather is warm. The pattern ran a bit bigger than I was expecting.

The secret revealed

I've been participating in a Secret Sister program with my MOMS Club. For 4 weeks I secretly left gifts for my "sister" on her doorstep. The gifts were to be all about Mom!

Week 1 - Deliver a $5 gift
Week 2 - Deliver a homemade baked gift
Week 3 - Deliver a "free" gift (recipes, magazine or book you already read, scrapbooking extras, etc.)
Week 4 - Reveal with another $5 gift

Last night was our reveal party, so I made my "sister" a cute gathered clutch.

And I finally got to use the new fabric labels that I made.
